A personal love story, in retrospect (Jan 10, 1999).

For awhile, love can bridge the gullies of religious differences.

You Are My Rapture

Oh glorious blue. Pure evening midnight blue.
setting sun reflections
through wintery window panes
distinct mountains
fading in misty snow haze
historical inaccuracies
and twilight outlines

You are my rapture
my reason to reflect
forced questioning
as jury, judge and witness
attacker and defense
my own divine scale
of right and wrong

Within myself
the lion and lamb
but no peaceful co-existence
no quiet, heavenly sleep
martyred but no real cause
not even
self righteous imagery

Outside the indigent kitty
with bellyfilling offerings
and cold coming night
closed eyed
in window flowerbox
exchanging blinks
among outsiders

Myself warm. within
heated by hellish fires
the accusing demon
waving the philosophic pitchfork
adding its weight to the balance
honorably presenting evidence
with confident, cool airs

The doors of that heaven
shut by my own hands
thrown back down to the cross
too late to appease either side
frozen, thoughfully. Thought full.
in a backwater purgatory

moon fed snow
algae glowing underneath
wind swept breakers
tire tracks askew
despite the well worn path
like clouds on the microworld
ice crystals flow in currents
to reveal imperfections below

Your smiling moistened lips
reveal in epiphany
that most holy of joy
joyful yet human in its effect
godly in its feeling
even among the unbelievers
then flesh to enter
nature's blessed union

No scripture needed
our spirituals sung
through gasps and sighs
and sacred entwined sleep
happiness its own end and reward
differences momentary
under love's enduring light
